In keeping with the Marian Medical Center healthcare philosophy, the Certified Phlebotomy Technician Level II (Phlebotomist) is responsible for obtaining blood, urine, and culture specimens from patients ranging in age from newborn to geriatric, according to established procedures of Marian Medical Center Laboratory and State and Federal Regulations.
Performs clerical functions and routine repetitive specimen testing under direct supervision of a licensed technologist. Rotates shifts, holidays, and weekends as needed. Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management following written notice. Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions exactly. Must demonstrate and promote teamwork. Must be able to work in a calm and conscientious manner under high volume and STAT conditions. Basic communication skills and the ability to be caring and personable with patients are mandatory. Knowledge of standard laboratory terminology is preferred. Rigid accuracy in the identification of patient names and numbers and the ability to perform phlebotomy successfully using established procedures on patients of all ages are essential qualifications.

In keeping with the Marian Regional Medical Center healthcare philosophy, the Certified Phlebotomist - Outpatient is responsible for greeting and accurately registering patients into the hospital/laboratory information systems. The incumbent is responsible for accurately obtaining, processing, and handling blood, urine, and culture specimens. Additionally, accurately collects, processes and ships specialized kit testing. Work is primarily in the outpatient area of the hospital or at a stand alone patient service center (draw station). The incumbent is required to rotate among thelaboratory outreach patient service centers including shift, holiday, and weekend rotation. Patients served may range in age from newborn to geriatric and work will be performed in accordance with established procedures of Marian Regional Medical Center Laboratory, CLSI standards, and State and Federal Regulations. The laboratory assistant is under the authorization of the Medical Director and the Clinical. Laboratory Scientist and performs a variety of laboratory activities and tests as related to Medical Technology as defined in section 1034.1 of Title 17, Calif. Admin. Code. Unlicensed person may not perform any part of a manual nor any part of an automated procedure that requires measurement or calculation. Unlicensed person may not make any decisions related to the reading of standard or control results for any test procedure. All laboratory results must be critically reviewed and verified for accuracy, reliability and validity by a licensed Clinical. Laboratory Scientist before results are sent out. A laboratory assistant can also perform venipunctures, heelstick and/or fingersticks for the purpose of withdrawing blood for laboratory test procedures on neonate, infant, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.

About this opportunity:
Under the direction of the Laboratory Medical Director, Laboratory Manager, and Laboratory Support Service Supervisor, this position is assigned the responsibility of various duties, which are technical and supportive in nature. These may include the basic duties, such as, blood specimen collection, specimen processing, answering telephones, computer data input/retrieval, and other duties as assigned. In addition to the above, the laboratory assistant may be assigned to perform, specimen preparatory handling in Microbiology, processing of specimens for reference laboratories, and inventory/ordering.
Position Summary:

Minimum:
- Current California State certification as Phlebotomist is required.

Preferred:

The incumbent is responsible for the direct supervision and operation of the Laboratory services provided by the Lab Assistants (Phlebotomist and Specimen Processors), and office clerical staff at Mercy San Juan Medical Center under the direction of the Director of the Clinical Laboratory Services. The incumbent is accountable for coordinating the efficient and timely processing of specimens, accurately and timely test results, reporting and charting of results in a cost-effective manner. Working in conjunction with the Laboratory Director, the incumbent is responsible for the administrative functions of the laboratory including safety, information technology projects, supply chain management, billing standards, and other specific administrative laboratory functions as assigned. Our Cancer Center Laboratory is seeking a phlebotomist to join our team! Performs blood collection. Performs specimen processing. Assists in clerical duties.
Position Summary:
Under general supervision and medical direction, performs specimen collection procedures via venipuncture and capillary puncture techniques. These tasks encompass the collection of biological specimens and incorporates functional/developmental age into judgement decision-making processes. These tasks include but not limited to in-patient , outpatient, Emergency Department patients, pre-surgical patients, and behavioral health patient procedures in all locations of the Medical Center, as well as client facilities. Other duties associated with clinical laboratory functions are clerical and technical in nature, including, but not limited to the performance of ECG tracings, TB skin inoculations, transporting and processing of specimens, use of hospital/laboratory information technology systems, telephone communications, data entry and retrieval, and problem investigation and resolution. Additionally, use of hospital/laboratory/ personal vehicles may be required. Responsible for courier duties on an as-needed basis. Demonstrates a willingness and ability to perform all assigned tasks.
