About This Position

Position Summary:
The Sonographer II performs ultrasonography procedures. Preferably performs all routine and emergency radiographic and fluoroscopic procedures. Provides radiology servcies to all ages.
Minimum:
- One year or more as a sonographer is required.
- One year or more as a radiologic technologist, if applicable, is required.
- Successful completion of RDMS Registry examination in two of the following three areas: Abdomen, OB/GYN, Vascular or ARRT is required.
- Current BLS certification (CT CPRBLS) is required.
Preferred:
- Associate degree in Science is preferred.
- Completion of California State Certification (CRT) examination, if Radiologic Tech AND completion of the American Registry of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) national examination, if radiologic technologist is preferred.
The San Luis Diagnostic Center, a French Hospital Medical Center outpatient department, is an American College of Radiology (ACR) accredited facility in Mammography, Stereotactic Breast biopsy, US guided breast biopsy, Breast MRI, and is the Central Coast's first Breast Imaging Center of Excellence. In addition, we are ACR accredited in CT, PET/CT High Field Open MRI. We are the only facility in the county to offer Ultra High-Field, short-bore/large bore, High Speed multichannel MRI. Position Summary:Candidates must have the following knowledge and abilities: Knowledge of: anatomy and physiology for imaging including cross sectional relationships; medical terminology relating to radiology; principles of operation and care of x-ray machines and accessory equipment; currently accepted diagnostic radiologic procedures; radiation safety requirements and practices for the operator, patient and public; film processing systems; mechanical and electrical safety practices and requirements in the patient examination environment; preparation, use and hazards of diagnostic contrast materials. Ability to: minimize radiation exposure to patients, self and other persons; perform general and specialized radiographic procedures which meet the department's standard of quality; recognize and respond to allergic reactions and other life-threatening patient conditions which might arise during the examination process; act courteously and with tact in dealing with patients, visitors and the public; maintain confidentiality of patient records and information; remain calm and reassure those who may be distressed by the examination or procedure; develop and maintain a cooperative working relationship with physicians and hospital personnel; work effectively under stress and adjust priorities as circumstances require; organize work assignments, maintaining accurate and complete records; maintain a high degree of accuracy in procedural detail and required records; work independently on-call covering all normal clerical and technical functions. The incumbent performs diagnostic imaging procedures according to the written or transcribed verbal orders of a physician and within the scope of his or her Certification at all MHS facilities under the direction of the Imaging Supervisor and the Medical Director of Radiology. Technologist can be required to participate in the department's call schedule to ensure coverage weeknights, weekends and holidays.

The SLP has responsibilities for assigned patients including evaluation, treatment planning, patient treatment, and documentation of care. Therapists are assigned patients ranging in age from neonatal to geriatrics. Assignments are dependent on the specific experience, training and demonstrated competence of the therapist and the needs of the patients. The SLP is expected to develop their clinical skills with ultimate responsibility for assuming clinical competency.
