Position Summary:
The Laboratory Technician II collects and processes laboratory specimens under the general direction of licensed laboratory personnel.
Minimum:
- Current California State certification as Phlebotomist is required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
Preferred:
- Two (2) years acute care experience (or similar work setting) is preferred.
- Valid drivers license and proof of insurance if using own vehicle is preferred.
The incumbent is responsible for the direct supervision and operation of the Laboratory services provided by the Lab Assistants (Phlebotomist and Specimen Processors), and office clerical staff at Mercy San Juan Medical Center under the direction of the Director of the Clinical Laboratory Services. The incumbent is accountable for coordinating the efficient and timely processing of specimens, accurately and timely test results, reporting and charting of results in a cost-effective manner. Working in conjunction with the Laboratory Director, the incumbent is responsible for the administrative functions of the laboratory including safety, information technology projects, supply chain management, billing standards, and other specific administrative laboratory functions as assigned. This responsibility is to be carried out in a manner consistent with the Mission and Philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy.

- Follows all standard procedures and safety regulations; deploys asepsis techniques during phlebotomy procedures.
- Oversees and develops laboratory personnel training; instructs, supervises and manages technicians to conduct proper experimental practices.
