The position serves as the President of Mark Twain Medical Center, a 25-bed full-access hospital providing inpatient acute care, outpatient services, and emergency services in Calaveras County. Located in beautful San Andreas, California and founded in 1951, Mark Twain Medical Center’s Medical Staff, averaging 85, represents a broad range of specialties that ensure access to high quality medical care in a rural community. On average, more than 300 people are employed at the hospital and its five Family Medical Centers.
2013 kicked off many exciting developments for our hospital. We opened the first full-service Cancer Center which provides chemotherapy and other infusion services. Later that year, we opened an Orthopedic Specialty Care Clinic in Angels Camp. In the fall of 2014, we brought Telehealth technology to our Emergency Department and Intensive Care Units. Telehealth offers 24/7 stroke diagnosis and treatment for our patients by connecting Mercy Telehealth Network specialists in Sacramento. In the spring of 2015 we opened the Mark Twain Heart Center in San Andreas where we provide quality heart care.
The incumbent in this position will report to the SVP Operations for Central California and work together on all key operational components of the business including execution of the hospital strategy, management, financial performance and oversight of all operational components of the hospital in accordance and in alignment with the Dignity Health strategy. Plans and implemenst new business strategies and manages relationships with physicians and external partners considering Healthcare Industry trends in a rapidly changing and highly regulated market.
Additionally, understanding the culture and history of the community which Mark Twain Medical Center serves, inclusive of hospital fiduciary board of directors, physician partners and other entities where cultivation and maintenance of positive relationships are critical to the success of the hospital is essential.

Plans and implements new businesses using different business models and strategic relationships with external partners and physicians. Develops and executes strategy for each line of business/service within market area from the perspective of what makes it a viable enterprise and recognizes those elements that require modification and/or expertise to existing local processes and structure to ensure success.
Facilitates and reinforces through business processes and performance measures an institutional mindset for clinical innovation as an on-going process to look at clinical practices in order to reduce unnecessary variations to improve clinical outcomes and reduce costs.
Develops key service lines, leveraging clinical program tools and service line support/data, implementing outpatient strategy, and identifying market scale opportunities (e.g., recruiting, education) across assigned service areas.
The registered nurse is responsible to take primary responsibility to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the nursing care of each assigned patient. Provide direct patient care. Employing excellent customer service skills, the Patient Registration Representative Apprenticeship will provide on-the-job experience for those looking to develop a career in patient registration. This person will learn how to ensure a positive patient experience throughout the registration process in multiple areas of registration. They will insure appropriate reimbursement for services rendered, primary duties taught will include:
a.) Appropriate patient identification
b.) Collecting accurate and thorough patient demographic data
c.) Obtaining insurance information and verifying eligibility and benefits
d.) Determining and collecting patient financial liability
e.) Referring patients to the Patient Registration Specialist as needed for assistance with financial counseling and/or clearance
The Patient Registration Representative Apprentice will work side-by-side with a Registration Representative assigned to them to ensure they adhere to the organization's policies and procedures for resolution of patient financial liability. Additionally, the Patient Registration Representative Apprentice will learn to be an information source for patients and patient's families by explaining hospital policies, patient financial responsibilities, and Patient Rights and Responsibilities.
The RN Care Coordinator is responsible for assessing, planning, facilitating and advocating for options and services through a continuum of care from point of contact through discharge on assigned patients.The RN Care Coordinator performs this role in such a manner as to meet the individuals health needs while promoting quality and cost effective outcomes. The positions emphasis will be on care coordination, communication and collaboration with nursing, physicians, departments within the medical center, insurers and post acute service providers to pace the care toward optimal outcomes within the appropriate level of care. The RN Care Coordinator will advocate for the patient and family by identifying and valuing patient choice, spiritual needs, cultural, language and socioeconomic barreris to care transitions . In addition, the RN Care Coordinator will protect confidentiality while striving to achieve high levels of patient satisfaction. The RN Care Coordinator consistently conducts the utilization review process and the discharge planning process as required by hospital policies, standards of practice and Federal and State regulations.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Minimum of 3 years nursing experience in an acute hospital setting required. Prior Care Coordination experience in a clinical or insurance setting is required. If operational conditions permit, training a candidate without the required experience may be considered. A Masters Degree in nursing with a concentration in Case Management can serve as a substitute for the experience requirement. BSN degree preferred.
REQUIREMENTS: Working knowledge of the RN scope of practice, current state requirements, CMS Conditions of Participation, EMTALA, Patient Bill of Rights, AB1203 and other federal or state regulatory requirement as specific to Utilization Review and Discharge Planning required Case Management Certification preferred. Current California registered nursing license required. Basic Life Support Certification required.
