Position Summary:
Performs a variety of clinical laboratory procedures in assigned sections to obtain and report data used in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Uses technical skills, instrumentation, information systems and other resources to perform waived, moderately and highly complex procedures in order to provide clinical laboratory support to all user groups in the hospital and medical community. Provides clinical laboratory consultation in accordance with regulatory agency standards and laboratory law. Supervises all work performed by non-licensed staff and all other designated staff members.
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs clinical laboratory tests that employ the principles of one or more of the fundamental sciences to detect, identify, measure, or enumerate any particular entity or substance in a clinical laboratory specimen. A clinical laboratory specimen is any material removed from a human being on which examinations can be made to aid in ascertaining the presence, progress, or source of disease in human beings. This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of St. Bernardine Medical Center. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee shall support St. Bernardine Medical Center's strategic plan and the goals and direction of the quality improvement/process improvement activities.

Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, CLS performs moderate and high complexity testing in areas of Blood Bank, Chemistry, Coagulation, Hematology, Microbiology, Serology and Urinalysis following established laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, analysis and result reporting for patient specimens. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist may be required to rotate in other departments, work weekends and Holidays and cover other shifts as supervisor determines need.
Position Summary:
This position is responsible for performing the complete scope of tests in the laboratory section to which assigned, under the direction of the laboratory supervisor, the Laboratory Manager and the Director of the Laboratory (Pathologist). Incumbents in this position shall comply with all applicable laws and rules including the Dignity Health Standards of Conduct and Dignity Health policies and procedures that apply to his/her job responsibilities, seek guidance when in doubt, promptly report any potential or suspected violation of Dignity Health Standards of Conduct, Dignity Health policy or procedure or applicable laws/regulations and when requested, assist Dignity Health personnel in investigating all allegations of violation. When called upon, the incumbent shall assist in risk evaluation and work collaboratively with facility/entity leaders to implement, monitor and mitigate risk corrective plans outlined by the Compliance program.
Minimum:
- This position requires a current California license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist limitation to practice within the applicable section of the Laboratory. Specific modality scientist licenses acceptable.
- Bachelor's degree in Science required.
Preferred:
- Two years laboratory experience preferred.
- Registration with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists desirable.

About This Position

The CLS II also performs such routine tasks as phlebotomy and clerical duties in support of the Laboratory. The CLS II will be responsible for a specific discipline within the Laboratory.

About this opportunity:
Under the direction of the Laboratory Medical Director, Laboratory Director, and Section Supervisor, a Clinical Laboratory Scientist II is assigned the responsibility of: occasionally obtaining the sample to be tested from a patient; routinely analyzing specimens for reportable results by standard procedures; recording and transmitting results to the physician initiating the request; and working in two or three of the laboratory section(s). May possibly be hired/classified as CLS-II working one to two sections of the Laboratory if total experience as a State of California-licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Medical Technologist) meets or exceeds 7 years and a suitable, CLS-II job requisition and opening exists that would allow work in only one to two Laboratory sections.
