Job Summary:   We seek outstanding applicants for a full-time post doctoral position in the laboratory of Dr. Ruchira Jha, Departments of Neurology, Neurosurgery and Neurobiology. An MD, MD/PhD or PhD scientist in neuroscience or closely related field is sought for the translational study of cerebral edema and contusion expansion after traumatic brain injury (TBI). Our NIH funded laboratory focuses on translational research in TBI, with a particular interest in secondary injury processes that are clinically relevant to the care of patients. Our preclinical laboratory work is primarily in TBI models (including use of various transgenics). We also use human tissue and biofluid samples to explore and evaluate potential biomarkers and how genetic differences may inform precision medicine. Our work frequently involves extensive collaborations with other university laboratories and networks nationwide.   Applicants are expected to have an excellent track record of academic work including rigorous scientific method and publications. The ideal candidate would be highly motivated and interested in the field of acute brain injury, translational research, and understanding mechanisms underlying secondary injury processes that are clinically relevant and major but modifiable contributors to outcome. A basic knowledge of data analysis, statistics and bioinformatics (e.g. analyzing RNA-seq data) is helpful- or alternatively the desire and capability of learning how to code in standard programs (Stata, SPSS, R).
