Position Summary:   This position is accountable for 24-hour operational management, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care in the Women’s and Children’s nursing units including labor and delivery, post-partum, nursery, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) and pediatrics. The incumbent ensures that the level of care provided and the atmosphere in which it is provided are consistent with the mission and core values of Dignity Health. He/she represents the nursing profession by demonstrating competency in the following core behaviors: service excellence, collaboration, accountability, outcome focused, effective communication, performance improvement, champion of innovation and commitment to development of self and others.     The position is responsible for implementing cost effective processes to address patient and community needs, optimizing efficiencies and establishing clinical standards for the populations served. The incumbent’s primary objective is to provide collaborative leadership that effectively demonstrates the ability to think and act strategically with an understanding of the Health Care environment. The position is accountable for the preparation of operational and capital budgets based on criteria supported by volume and expense projections, cost benefit analysis and other relevant data. The incumbent will assess, develop and implement accountability metrics to measure appropriate levels of care; identify new service opportunities; determine potential for integration; develop quality improvement objectives; define outcome measures; create the requisite information systems; and work with members of the medical center management team to support strategic initiatives.     This position works interdependently with physicians and hospital leadership in the development of educational programs with cost and quality parameters for the staff in Women & Children’s services (currently 230 subordinates). The incumbent is expected to work collaboratively with the medical staff, as well as other hospital leadership; involving or informing them of upcoming changes as well as soliciting feedback for changes.     The major challenge of this position includes developing a partnership between physicians and MSJMC in an environment where competition is keen and care is highly managed. The Sr. Director must understand current technology, regulations, competition in the marketplace, and consumer needs and demands. The incumbent will develop a system that better supports the physicians in the care of their patients and ensures that patient care produces quality outcomes and is rendered in a cost effective manner. Critical to the success of this position is the Sr. Director's ability to work with operational staff and physicians. This requires the incumbent must support the staff, but at the same time help them to recognize that high quality and cost effective care require practice approaches that are consistent among physicians and staff. This position has the accountability and authority to initiate and establish committees and task force structures of physicians and clinicians; to standardize, improve, reduce cost, and evaluate quality and cost effectiveness of programs; chair committees when appropriate; hire, evaluate, and discipline staff. Recommendations are made to the VP/CNE regarding capital expenditures that exceed signature authority, additions to staff levels, and policy changes. Employees are responsible for completion of unit competency assessments, annual safety review, CPR, and renewal of license by maintaining continuing education units as required by hospital policy. Reports to the Director of Surgical Services. Assessment, planning, intervention, evaluation and documentation of surgical patients.  Nursing care of patients and for maintaining standards of nursing practice and optimal outcomes, including supervision of OR Technicians.   Job requirement: Two (2) years experience as a Circulator nurse in acute care environment. Orthopedic experience required.Current CA/RN license. Current  CPR certification. ACLS.
