About This Position: In keeping with the Marian Medical Center healthcare philosophy, the Certified Phlebotomy Technician Level II (Phlebotomist) is responsible for obtaining blood, urine, and culture specimens from patients ranging in age from newborn to geriatric, according to established procedures of Marian Medical Center Laboratory and State and Federal Regulations. Performs clerical functions and routine repetitive specimen testing under direct supervision of a licensed technologist. Rotates shifts, holidays, and weekends as needed. Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management following written notice. Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions exactly. Must demonstrate and promote teamwork. Must be able to work in a calm and conscientious manner under high volume and STAT conditions. Basic communication skills and the ability to be caring and personable with patients are mandatory. Knowledge of standard laboratory terminology is preferred. Rigid accuracy in the identification of patient names and numbers and the ability to perform phlebotomy successfully using established procedures on patients of all ages are essential qualifications.
