About the Position In keeping with French Hospital Medical Center health care philosophy, the Unit Clerk/Scrub Technician for Labor and Delivery serves as unit receptionist, transcribes orders, orders tests, orders and monitors supply inventory, coordinates unit phone communication, and maintains medical records according to Standards. Under the direct supervision of a registered nurse, the Unit Clerk/Scrub Technician performs unit support activities such as transporting patients, stocking shelves and cleaning work areas. Reports observations regarding patient status to the registered nurse. Demonstrates surgical knowledge and assists surgical team during operative procedure. Arranges sterile set-up and maintains good aseptic technique. Counts needles, sponges and instruments with circulating nurses. Cares for operative specimens. Assumes responsibility for equipment. Primarily cares for female patients with conditions relating to childbearing and general women's health and for newborns. In addition to these major responsibilities, the Unit Clerk/Scrub Technician may be assigned other duties from time to time. Employees are responsible for completion of unit competency assessments, annual safety reviews, CPR and renewal of certifications (when applicable) by maintaining continuing education units as required by hospital policy.

Ensures that post discharge care coordination is appropriately handled at all times. - Writes, reviews and implements physician orders for laboratory testing, examination, diagnosis, and treatment within scope of practice. - Provides prescriptions and performs procedures and patient family education within the scope of expertise and protocols. - Provides patient/family education in preparation for discharge planning. Validates knowledge and understanding of medications and red flags of illness prior to discharge and post discharge. - Identifies patient/family psychosocial needs (i.e. cultural, spiritual) and addresses or makes referrals as applicable. - Works collaboratively with the Medical Director for planning the overall care for the neuroscience patient, provides support as needed. - Act as a liaison between physicians, nursing ancillary staff and patients and their families. - Serves as a clinical resource and provides consultation to healthcare staff regarding neuroscience patients. - Collaborates with physicians, nurse educators, pharmacists, spiritual care providers and others to implement formal and informal community education regarding care of the chronic disease patient. - Assists in the development and implementation of clinical practice guidelines and standards. - Ensures that the Neuroscience Program complies with all hospital policies and delivers high-quality care to patients. - Consults with the Medical Director, hospital staff, and primary care physicians. - Assists patient/family to schedule follow-up visits with their physician and/or specialists.
