Accountabilities
Legal Responsibilities:
- Conduct pre-claim investigation, legal and factual research and initial case assessments
- Perform administrative duties (calendar hearings and discovery deadlines, organize case files and manage logistics)
- Maintain pleading and correspondence
- Collect, organize, analyze and summarize records
- Aid attorneys with review of interrogatory and discovery responses
- Gather relevant information from a variety of sources
- Liaise between internal litigation support team and outside counsel
- Provide assistance with case settlements
- Assist in strategic management of cases
- Assist with deposition, mediation and trial preparation
- Claims Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain Employment Practices Liability (EPL) claims in the claims management system (iVOS) as directed by the Senior Counsel, Employment Litigation.
- Input and maintain information in iVOS in a timely manner with high accuracy and data integrity. Review and update the database as needed.
- Create and maintain physical claim files or BOX files and electronic iVOS record by updating with claim related materials including information from the Senior Counsel, Employment Litigation, corporate and facility human resources personnel, and risk services including, investigation reports, correspondence and information to and from excess insurers, claimants and defense counsel.
- Manage and investigate claims to comply with the established claims management policies, procedures and DIGNITY HEALTH philosophies as directed; interface and gather information from hospital personnel as required.
- Provide timely and accurate reports to excess insurance carriers of selected claims according to established criteria and provide file updates pursuant to reporting guidelines.
- Identify exposures, trends and opportunities for improvement that may affect the DIGNITY HEALTH facilities and risk program. Collaborate and communicate with the appropriate facility and corporate risk partners.
- Use the iVOS claims system, including maintenance of current knowledge and ability to run basic claim analyses and reports. Enter and update claims information so that meaningful and accurate data can be accessed, monitored and relied upon by all Risk partners. Maintain a proactive system diary for open and monitor status claims and to review events that have the potential to be future claims.
- Comply with all audit and claims management procedures and ensure the highest level of accountability and transparency in all financial transactions entered into and managed through the iVOS system.
- Comply with all DIGNITY HEALTH conflict of interest policies with respect to vendor transactions.
- Coordinate meetings and teleconferences with the Senior Counsel, Employment Litigation with corporate and facility HR, compliance and risk personnel, defense counsel and vendors.
- Calendar litigation dates for Senior Counsel, Employment Litigation for mediations, settlement conferences, and trials in iVOS and on other calendars, as directed.
- Run iVOS reports as requested by the Senior Counsel, Employment Litigation; Prepare and distribute month-end reports for open and closed claims or as requested by Senior Counsel, Employment Litigation
- Prepare draft correspondence to attorneys, clients, claimants, excess insurers, and state agencies as directed; interface and work with insurers and defense counsel as required.
- Prepare requests and authorizations and/or subpoenas for records as directed.
- Arrange with outside vendors to obtain information from courts including index checks for complaints filed against DIGNITY HEALTH or DIGNITY HEALTH facilities; obtain copies of complaints, and other information filed with the court.
- Process Settlement Check Requisition Forms for indemnity payments made on claims.
- Process vendor invoices and payments in iVOS.
- Comply with all claims management guidelines and requirements with respect to processing claims and financial transactions within iVOS.
- Attend meetings as directed
- Obtain information to complete files as directed;
- Other tasks as directed by the Senior Counsel, Employment Litigation.

Dignity Health Medical Group in partnership with Chandler Regional Medical Center (CRMC), an ACS-verified Level I trauma center in suburban Phoenix, is seeking a highly qualified, fellowship-trained acute care surgeon to join our team of five (5). Our team’s focus is driven around being leaders in education, centered on evidenced based medicine while ensuring consistent collaboration and communications within the team. Ideal candidates must be easy-going, approachable and focused around team based medicine. They also need to be comfortable in a rapid growing and expanding environment while also being board-certified or board-eligible by the America Board of Surgery in general surgery with added qualifications in surgical critical care, as well as expertise in the management of complex injuries including thoracic and vascular trauma. In addition, candidates must have an interest and proven track record in clinical and/or basic science research with documented publications. CRM evaluated 80,000 patients in the emergency department and 3,400 trauma patients last year, of which 11% suffered a penetrating mechanism. Our trauma center in on track to care for 3,600 patients this year. We are formally integrated with the William Beaumont Army Medical Center (WBAMC) General Surgery Residency in El Paso, TX. In addition to general surgery resident coverage, we also have general surgery research residents year round as well as rotating family medicine residents and 24/7 ACNP and PA coverage. We have excellent subspecialty support, including Barrow Neurological Institute neurosurgeons and fellowship-trained orthopedic trauma surgeons. Duties include equitable primary and back-up trauma and emergency general surgery call. Candidates would provide coverage of our 12-bed and 5-bed dedicated trauma intensive care units, floor rounds, clinic and an elective surgery practice (including robotics). We have a robust trauma research program and expect each member of the team to fully engage in ongoing research activities within the division. Research Technician opportunity in the Thoracic Oncology Research Laboratory of the Norton Thoracic Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center. The candidate should have familiarity and experience with basic molecular biology protocols including nucleic acid isolation, PCR, and Western blot analysis.
