  Job Summary:   The Barrow Neuroimaging Innovation Center, led by Chad Quarles at Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI), has an opening for a neuroimage data analyst. This person will work closely with our team of imaging scientists, biologists, and clinicians on NIH, DOD, and VA sponsored projects focused on establishing multi-modality image analysis tools applicable to neurologic disorders (e.g. brain tumors, traumatic brain injury, ALS). Our studies span preclinical, first-in-human and clinical trial imaging and modalities include dynamic contrast MRI, multi-contrast MRI, susceptibility weighted MRI, diffusion MRI, functional MRI, and dynamic PET. The role offers the opportunity to be a part of large, multi-site studies and clinical trials.   Facilities and Environment: The BNI is an international leader in the treatment, research and education of brain and spinal diseases, conditions and injuries. The institute performs more neurosurgical procedures annually than any other facility in the United States. Outstanding instrumental resources, including multiple 1.5T and 3T MRI, PET/CT, 7T preclinical MRI, microCT, microPET and optical imaging scanners are available. Experience with pre-clinical model surgeries, handling, behavior, genotyping, histologic techniques, and physiology techniques are desirable. Experience in inducing SAH is desired and candidates with such experience will be given preference. Strong verbal and written communication in English is desired. Duties and responsibilities: The selected candidate will perform surgeries in pre-clinical models to induce SAH, treat pre-clinical models by giving intravenous or intraperitoneal injection, perform cryosectioning, immunohistochemistry, real-time PCR, Western-blots, Flow cytometry, imaging by using confocal microscopes. The new hire is also expected to perform post-op care and monitor and assess functional outcomes by using various behavioral setups used in our lab.   Job Summary:   The Barrow Neuroimaging Innovation Center has an opening for a Research Assistant Professor (non-tenure track) or Imaging Research Specialist focused on Neuro-Oncology Imaging. This person will work closely with our team of imaging scientists, biologists, and clinicians on NIH sponsored projects focused on establishing new multi-parametric MRI and/or PET image acquisition and analysis tools that can improve brain tumor patient management (e.g., diagnostics, prognostics, early therapeutic response assessment, radiotherapy and surgical guidance). Our studies span preclinical, first-in-human and clinical trial imaging and modalities include dynamic contrast MRI, multi-contrast MRI, susceptibility weighted MRI, diffusion MRI, functional MRI, and dynamic PET. The role offers the opportunity to be a part of large, multi-site studies and clinical trials.   Facilities and Environment: The BNI is an international leader in the treatment, research and education of brain and spinal diseases, conditions and injuries. The institute performs more neurosurgical procedures annually than any other facility in the United States. Outstanding instrumental resources, including multiple 1.5T and 3T MRI, PET/CT, 7T preclinical MRI, microCT, microPET and optical imaging scanners are available. In addition, collaborators within the BNI possess exceptional expertise in neurosurgery, neurology, pathology, and molecular and genomic characterization.   Candidate Qualifications: We are seeking applicants with a PhD in physics, bioengineering, mathematics, computer science or a related discipline. Post-doctoral research experience in advanced MRI methods is expected. Competitive candidates will have experience in many of the following areas: acquisition and analysis of advanced imaging methods (e.g., tracer kinetic modeling, DWI/DTI, SWI, CEST, fMRI), statistical analysis, multi-parametric data integration, mathematical modeling, and machine learning. Strong programming skills in Matlab, Python, C/C++ and experience with image analysis software packages (e.g., FreeSurfer, FSL, AFNI) are expected.

Job Summary:   Barrow’s Stroke Program is among the most advanced and busiest stroke centers in the country. The expert staff in the Stroke Program cares for more stroke victims than any other hospital in the southwestern United States. Our Stroke Program has also treated more patients with tPA (tissue plasminogen activator), the only FDA-approved "clot-busting" drug, than any hospital in the United States.   Our dedicated stroke team is committed to providing excellent patient care, conducting research into the prevention and treatment of stroke, and educating our community about risk factors.   Ensures assigned studies are conducted in accordance with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Office for Human Research Protections (OHRP), Good Clinical Practices (GCP), Institutional Review Board (IRB), HIPAA regulations and institutional requirements, which includes, but not limited to, the following duties: Knowledge of all regulatory requirements and institutional requirements when conducting the study protocol(s). Participant recruitment including pre-screening, new potential participant follow-up and collaboration with the Investigators. Coordinates research subject informed consent and entry into appropriate research studies ensuring that all inclusion and exclusion criteria are met. With the Investigator, conducts informed consent conversation with the potential participant and/or caregiver. Coordinates and/or performs a variety of procedures/tests including, but not limited to, laboratory tests/phlebotomy, vital signs, ECG/EKGs, imaging studies, cognitive evaluations, as well as other needs as outlined in the study protocol(s). Obtains medical history, medical records and all other procedures outlined in the study protocol(s) within the allowed timelines. Responds to patient inquires via phone or in person in a timely manner. Processing and shipments of samples collected as outlined in the study protocol(s). Provides participant educations, with the Investigators, research pharmacist, and other members of the research study team, such as study specific procedures, diary/study log, proper dosage/administration, and specific restrictions as outlined in the study protocol(s). Completes case report forms, data entry, and maintains source documentation for all study participants. Triages, tracks and reports adverse events and deviations to the Investigator as well as the sponsor and IRB in accordance to their requirements.  Coordinates research monitor visits and responds to all data queries in a timely manner. Collaboration and in-services with other hospital departments to ensure patient safety as well as ensuring the correct execution of the research studies. Our lab focuses on translational research in traumatic brain injury, with a particular interest in secondary injury processes like cerebral edema and contusion expansion that are clinically relevant to the care of patients. Our laboratory work is primarily in pre-clinical models (including various transgenics). We also use human tissue and biofluid samples to explore and evaluate potential biomarkers and how genetic differences may inform precision medicine. Our work frequently involves extensive collaborations with other laboratories and networks nationwide.   The candidate must be comfortable working with and handling pre-clinical models. Excellent project management, detailed record keeping, and interpersonal skills are critical. Successful candidates will be enthusiastic, excited to learn new techniques, trustworthy, reliable, and good team players.
