The Hope Street Family Center (HSFC) was established in 1992 as a community program of California Hospital Medical Center. Original program funding was provided by a research and demonstration grant from the federal Head Start Bureau as a national effort to develop more effective ways to support young children and families.

The California Hospital Medial Center Early Care and Education programs provide early care and education services for infants, toddlers and pre-school children. Staff within these programs are charged with nurturing and stimulating the social, emotional, language, cognitive, and physical development of each child.
