Overview

Hello humankindness

Located conveniently in the heart of Phoenix, Arizona, St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center is a 571-bed, not-for-profit hospital that provides a wide range of health, social and support services.  Founded in 1895 by the Sisters of Mercy, St. Joseph's was the first hospital in the Phoenix area. More than 125 years later, St. Joseph's remains dedicated to its mission of caring for the poor and underserved.

We are extremely proud to be a nationally recognized center for quality quaternary care, medical education and research. St. Joseph's includes the internationally renowned Barrow Neurological Institute, Norton Thoracic Institute, Cancer Center at St. Joseph's, Ivy Brain Tumor Center, and St. Joseph's Level I Trauma Center (which is verified by the American College of Surgeons). The hospital is also a respected center for high-risk obstetrics, neuro-rehabilitation, orthopedics, and other medical services. St. Joseph’s is considered a sought-after destination hospital for treating the most complex cases from throughout the world. Every day, approximately 20 percent of the hospital’s patients have traveled from outside of Arizona and the United States to seek treatment at St. Joseph’s.

U.S News & World Report routinely ranks St. Joseph's among the top hospitals in the United States for neurology and neurosurgery.  In addition, St. Joseph's boasts the Creighton University School of Medicine at St. Joseph's, and a strategic alliance with Phoenix Children's Hospital.

St. Joseph's is consistently named an outstanding place to work and one of Arizona's healthiest employers. Come grow your career with one of Arizona's Most Admired Companies.

Responsibilities

From creating experiments and prototyping implementations to designing new architectures, Senior Research Engineers in Machine Learning and Intelligence work on real-world problems, including artificial intelligence, data mining, natural language processing, hardware and software performance analytics, software and data architecture designs, and much more. The expectation is that you stay connected to your research roots by actively teaching, mentoring, and actively contributing to the wider research community via open-source projects or publishing papers.

As a researcher and engineer at the Barrow Artificial Intelligence Center (BAIC), you will apply machines learning and data analytics techniques to solve challenging healthcare problems and build models and solutions for our customers. You will be innovating and delivering the most advanced machines learning techniques to impact the well-being of patients and health systems.

You will work closely with other engineers and teams across Dignity Health to develop, scale up, and deploy algorithms and solutions that will be used by both internal and external users, and solve real problems from various application areas. BAIC is a unique place to expose the state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms to various healthcare stakeholders, and help remake traditional healthcare delivery to promote patient health, increase patient satisfaction, improve population health, reduce per-capita healthcare spending, and increase healthcare provider satisfaction. We work closely with partners across multiple healthcare and technology domains to manage practical problems and bring real-life impact.

We have a unique opportunity to advance machine learning research and apply it in a meaningful way to help patients live better, longer, and healthier lives while also improving all aspects of healthcare delivery through thoughtful problem-solving that ensures the viability of the healthcare system.

We have just scratched the surface of the potential that can be realized by artificial intelligence in healthcare. Your expertise in deep learning, computer vision, natural language processing, speech recognition, and other ML/AI fields will be critical to our success. We’re just getting started.
