    • Bed Size: 23 Usual Admitting Diagnosis: Labor and Delivery/Newborn care – Gynecological surgeries
    • Population Served: Women and infants
    • Special Equipment: Fetal monitor
    • Accreditations: Baby Friendly
    • Nurse to patient ratio, if applicable: 2:1 early labor, 1:1 active labor, 4:1 couplet care 


    Position Summary:


    The Labor Registered Nurse triages and cares for laboring patients under the direction of the Maternal Child

    Manager/Director. Additional patient populations served by the labor nurse include ante-partum, post-partum/newborn, and post-gynecological.


    • The registered nurse employs critical thinking to integrate objective data with knowledge gained from an assessment of the subjective experiences of patients. 
    • Registered nurses use this critical thinking process to apply the best available evidence and research data to the processes of diagnosis and treatment. 
    • Nurses continually evaluate quality and effectiveness of nursing practice and seek to optimize outcomes. 
    • Medical/clinical knowledge, technical and clinical skills, clinical judgment, interpersonal skills and communication as indicated in the current Comprehensive Accreditation Manual for Hospitals are essential components of nursing practice.
    • All registered nurses practice within the scopes and standards of practice set forth by the American Nurses Association.
    • This position is represented by CNA and is covered by the terms and conditions of the applicable collective bargaining agreement.



    Minimum Qualifications:  


    • 1 year of the last 2 years, recent experience as an RN in Labor and Delivery, or as an RN in an acute care setting and successful completion of applicable clinical and didactic SRDH specialty training program.  
    • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. 
    • EFM = External Fetal Monitoring course within 1 year of hire.  
    • Antepartum, Intrapartum, Postpartum, Post-gynecological and Level 1 Newborn Care.
    • Circulate for surgical procedures performed on the Maternal Child Unit.
    • Electronic Fetal Monitoring.
    • Medical Screening Exam Competency and Triage Obstetrical Patients (within 6 months of hire for experienced nurses (Prior nursing experience- a minimum of one (1) year of independent practice in Labor & Delivery experience). 
    • Newborn stabilization and resuscitation (baby catcher).
    • Post Anesthesia Care. 
    • RN = Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Nevada.
    • CT CPRBLS - Basic Life Support - AHA
    • CT NRP = Neonatal Resuscitation Program
    • CT CPRACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support - AHA  within 6 months of hire.
    • CT-STABLE within 6 months of hire.  


    Preferred Qualifications:  


    • 3 years of the last 5 years recent experience as an RN in Labor and Delivery or equivalent in a setting with 100 births/month.  
    • Bachelor of Science in Nursing.  
    • Certification in Specialty Area.
