    Dignity Health Mercy General Hospital has been serving the Sacramento community for more than 100 years. Founded by the Sisters of Mercy, Mercy General has been at its current site in the heart of East Sacramento since 1925. Mercy General Hospital has 342 licensed beds, a physician staff of more than 800 and is the highest volume cardiac procedure hospital in California. Mercy General is one of six Sacramento area hospitals that are part of Dignity Health, a system of 39 hospitals and medical centers in California, Arizona and Nevada. In FY 2016, Mercy General Hospital provided $36,095 in unsponsored care and programs for the benefit of our community.

    Responsibilities

    Position Summary:

     

    The incumbent will perform pre-analytic, analytic and in some cases post-analytic laboratory duties such as chemical, microscopic, and/or bacteriologic tests and verifies results for use in the diagnosis and/or treatment of disease. Demonstrates competency in patient testing for neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. May have access to medication storage areas in accordance with their job functions and hospital policy, or be required to distribute needles or syringes from storage locations, such as large stock supplies, automated dispensing units and other carts to/within patient care areas or treatment carts as defined by hospital policy/procedure. This responsibility is to be carried out in the manner consistent with the Mission and Philosophy of the Sisters of Mercy.  #HelloCLS

    Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in biological science (or US military equivalent) required
    • Current Callifornia Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) license required
    • One (1) year internship in a hospital clinical laboratory required
    • Demonstrated knowledge of modern clinical laboratory techniques and procedures, aseptic technique and proper safe technique in the handling of hazardous materials and biological specimens required
    • Ability to trouble-shoot procedures and instrumentation and problem-solve effectively required
