Position Summary:


The position serves as the clinical lead for behavioral health practices and services for patients being treated in emergency departments or on medical floors of the six Dignity Health hospitals in the Greater Sacramento Service Area.  Time will be split between Mercy General Hospital and Mercy Healthcare Folsom facilities. 


The manager is a professional caregiver with the leadership skills necessary to drive behavioral health initiatives through collaborative team building with multiple stakeholders, including physicians, psychiatrists, nurses, social workers and case managers and others to achieve optimal patient care and improved operational efficiency.


Core Duties:


  • Acts as oversight for patient centered initiatives aimed at improving quality of care, reducing LOS and improving throughput
  • Assesses current workflows and practices, and provides recommendations for quality and efficiency improvements that can be standardized across the region (i.e. clinical algorithms, operational workflows/processes, tele-psychiatry) 
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams on the implementation of initiatives, including in-service support and guidance
  • Works in problem-solving with hospital staff to address challenging patient-related issues
  • Educates providers and staff in clinical, safety and environmental practices for behavioral health patients
  • Supports outreach initiatives to build capacity among community and county resources
  • Reviews clinical documentation and data to assist in strategic planning, goal setting, and development of improved processes/practices
  • The manager also works closely with the Dignity Health Telemedicine Network, and contracted service providers and will have authority to act independently to resolve daily issues as they arise.

Minimum Qualifications:

  •  Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing required
  • Current California RN license required
  • Two (2) to five (5) years of experience in Mental Health as an RN within an acute care behavioral health and/or emergency services setting with increasing management responsibility required
  • Experience with adult psychiatric inpatients required
  • Ability to assess age-specific physical and psychosocial needs required
  • Course completion in Non-Violent Crisis Prevention Institute Training
  • Current BLS certification required (must be certified through the American Heart Association)
  • Requires:
    • Ability to assess age-specific physical and psychosocial needs required.
    • Strong background in clinical assessment and treatment of behavioral health patients
    • Knowledge in CPI and management of aggressive behavior, problem solving techniques and the ability to remain calm when managing conflict
    • Able to interact professionally with referral sources and patients on phone and in person.
    • Knowledge of and ability to provide crisis intervention, conflict resolution, problem-solving techniques
    • Possesses strengths in communication, interpersonal and team building
    • Ability to manage conflict
    • Ability to efficiently and effectively organize a variety of concurrent activities
    • Skilled at prioritizing multiple tasks in an ever-changing array of clinical situations
    • Flexibility in role and responsibilities based on current needs of organization
    • Cooperates fully in all risk management activities and investigations
    • Treats all information and data within the scope of the position w/confidentiality and security 


Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master's degree preferred
