Position Summary:


The Medical Record In-Patient Coder is a member of the Health Information Management Team responsible for ensuring the accuracy and completeness of clinical coding, validating the information in the databases for outcome management and specialty registries, across the entire integrated healthcare system. The purpose of this position is to apply the appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes to individual patient health information records for data retrieval, analysis, and claims processing. This position is expected to perform duties in alignment with the mission and policies within the Dignity Health organization, JCAHO, DHS and other regulatory agencies.





Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an acute care settingn as an inpatient coder with strong training background in coding and reimbursement.
  • HSD/GED OR 2 years equivalent work experience
  • Certified Coding Specialist credentialed from AHIMA requied
  • Basic understanding of computer applications.
  • Ability to work with Medical Staff and other departmental personnel.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
  • Experience and knowledge of Meditech Health Information Systems, 3M Encoder, and Smart programs. Must have knowledge of ICD-9-CM coding classification systems.
  • Visual acuity necessary for close work where accuracy is important.

  • Outpatient coding expertise
