    JOB SUMMARY Codes Ancillary, Emergency Department, Observation and Ambulatory Surgery accounts, meeting both quality and productivity standards.   Codes Inpatient records as time allows.   All accounts are evaluated, abstracted and optimized for reimbursement in accordance with federal guidelines.

    • Must successfully pass a pre-employment ICD-10CM coding assessment.
    • Demonstrates ability to accurately Code and Abstract records using ICD-10-CM and CPT coding conventions.
    • Demonstrates ability to work efficiently and effectively to maintain minimum coding productivity standards.
    • Reviews and validates all charges and CPT codes prior to finalizing the abstract for billing.
    • Reviews and validates or deletes, all codes suggested by the computer assisted coding application.
    • Determines that the final diagnoses and procedures stated by the physician and other providers are valid and complete.
    • Follows the physician query process on any cases requiring clarification of a diagnosis, or to address any documentation discrepancies.
    • Participates in all mandatory training and in-services.
    • Maintains necessary credentials and continuing education requirements to remain current on all new coding regulations and guidelines.
    • Demonstrates the ability to prioritize workload and communicate any problems to the director.
    • Demonstrates ability of effectively manage data and ensure data integrity.



    EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, TRAINING (include Licenses and Professional Affiliations):

    Education:                      High School Diploma and successful completion of an AHIMA accredited Coding Certification Program.


    Experience:                    Two years coding experience required in acute care setting.

    Specialized Training:     Thorough knowledge of Medical Records Guidelines set by accrediting and licensing agencies. Computer literate, medical terminology.

    Licensure:                      RHIT, RHIA or CCS preferred.

    Software:  Microsoft Word, Outlook, MIRA, Encoder and Computer Assisted Coding software
