Responsibilities

Job Summary / Purpose:

The role is responsible for designing, developing and overseeing strategies for CommonSpirit to improve its use of temporary physician and advanced practice providers, establishing provider contracting strategies, structures and processes in order to ensure that provider contracting addresses CommonSpirit Health business objectives including competitive contracts, compliance requirements and economic risks, and lead in other CommonSpirit Physician Enterprise innovation strategies. This leader will drive increased consistency and effectiveness of these agreements and applicable practices and procedures using strategic contracting strategies and relationships with the goal of ensuring that these agreements are designed and implemented in a manner that drives affordable, high-quality and accessible care. This leader will manage outside vendors and related contract negotiation and implementation. Responsible for establishing overall direction, standards, policies and procedures, and standardized data, tools and best practices to support effective implementation of temporary physician and advanced practice provider contracting and administration of agreements. Serves as a key member of the Physician Enterprise leadership team.

Essential Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Identifies program goals, metrics and strategies for enhancement of temporary physician and advanced practice providers, and overall provider contracting strategies for employed providers.
  • Oversees, aligns and coordinates enterprise provider strategy development to meet organizational objectives through leveraging best practices, reducing unwarranted variation. Ensures each Physician Enterprise region has a provider contracting strategy that meets long and short-term division needs
  • Leads the designs and implementation of new methodologies for internally managed temporary provider strategies and other innovative designs. Ensures a system coordinated effort and that each Physician Enterprise region aligns with this effort.
  • Create national model for provider employment agreements with common components across all regions and oversees strategies for third party provider agreements. Leads regions in developing multi-year approaches to meet common standards and increase alignment across the enterprise. Engage with division leaders to align around national provider contacting initiatives to achieve desired contract performance aligned with the organizational strategic initiatives.
  • Leads the development of tools for effective administration of agreements by regions which include but are not limited to: policies / guidelines regarding oversight practices to be deployed, reporting that enables effective monitoring of key controls to demonstrate adherence to key agreement details, independent reviews as appropriate to validate data and / or other agreement deliverables.
  • Serves as the operational subject matter leader for Physician Services Agreements, System Locum Tenens third party agreements, and managed service provider agreements with day-to-day responsibility to monitor all Physician Services agreements to ensure the financial terms, expiration and renewal dates as well as other key contract issues are effectively managed in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for maintaining internal documentation, monitoring compliance, and all reports for all Physician Services Agreements. Partners with Physician/Provider Compensation regarding Fair Market Value and Commercial Reasonableness assessments. Manages external and internal relationships related to the operational and financial issues related to Physician Services Agreements.
  • Represents and leads CSH and the Physician Enterprise at meetings on behalf of the organization related to the subject matter identified, with specific attention to demands of the regulatory environment (e.g. Stark self-referral law, federal anti-kickback statute, IRS regulations concerning tax exempt organizations, fair market value and commercial reasonableness.
  • Key member of the Physician Compensation Compliance Committee.
  • Promotes teamwork and shared information among other related initiatives to ensure a system-wide collaborative environment on these topics.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: 

 

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business, health administration, human resources or related field required. Master’s degree preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in provider operations in a contracted environment. Combined experience in provider contracting management and provider third party vendor management in health care/healthcare administration.
  • Experience managing provider employment agreements and relationships required.

Prior experience that demonstrates leadership in developing and implementing strategic initiatives across a large, decentralized organization using highly leveraged work teams comprised of internal and external staff to enter the minimum requirements
