  • Responsible to perform all therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory care procedures ordered by the responsible physician; evaluates patients;
  • Maintains all required patient and department records;
  • Maintains and evaluates proper functioning of equipment when required;
  • Responsible for obtaining written physician orders pertaining to respiratory care;
  • Responsible for organizing and planning daily work assignments and notifying shift charge therapist of problems and missed procedures;
  • Maintains professional knowledge of current respiratory care practice and department policy and procedures;
  • Responsible to practice job duties in accordance with department /Medical Center policy and procedure and the State of California Respiratory Care Act of 1982.
  • This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of St. Bernardine Medical Center.
  • It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values.
  • The employee shall support St. Bernardine Medical Center’s strategic plan and the goals and direction of the quality improvement/process improvement activities.



  • Graduate of Respiratory Therapist / Technician Program accredited by the AMA Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation, or one supported by the Joint Review Committee for Respiratory Therapy Education.
  • Meet all requirements for admission to the National Board for Respiratory Care, Inc., Entry Level Certification Examination.
  • Certified by the State of California as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) as specified in the Respiratory Care Practice Act of 1982,
  • BCLS- Basic Life Support

Additional License/Registration Requirements if providing services to Off-campus facilities

  • Current Class C California Driver’s License, DMV Printout with acceptable driving record, Proof of Automobile Insurance, Current Vehicle Registration
