CommonSpirit Health is the largest non-profit healthcare system in the United States with 142 hospitals in 21 states and annual revenues of nearly $30 billion.  CommonSpirit Health’s Treasury department supports an $850 Million card portfolio (includes credit and debit cards), through Point of Service (POS) applications/devices and other merchant card services.  There are over 150,000 employees and 25,000 physicians throughout CommonSpirit Health’s hospitals, academic health centers, teaching hospitals, critical access facilities, community health service organizations, nursing college, home health agencies, living communities, a medical foundation and other affiliated medical groups.


The Senior Merchant Card Analyst will facilitate provisioning, the setup and maintenance of merchant accounts and the ordering of new and replacement POS devices, and serve as the liaison between CommonSpirit Health’s centralized Treasury department and its many locations.  The primary goal of this position is to facilitate POS collection capabilities while maintaining appropriate internal controls, confidentiality and PCI compliance.  The Senior Merchant Card Analyst, interacts on a regular basis with a broad range of internal and external constituents, and must exhibit clarity, professionalism and kindness, consistent with the mission and values of CommonSpirit Health.


Working closely with the System Manager, Merchant Card Operations the Senior Merchant Card Analyst provides support for all aspects of CommonSpirit Health Merchant Card Operations, and serves as a Treasury contact for the following:

  • Respond to internal clients’ request for merchant accounts, and processing new account applications
  • Address merchant card related problems from all departments processing credit/debit cards, including equipment, processing issues, system access, statement reconciliation, accounting, chargebacks, refunds, etc.
  • Act as the liaison between all CommonSpirit Health departments and affiliated organizations that process credit/debit card transactions (hospital admitting areas, Central Billing Offices (CBOs), foundations, pharmacies, cafeterias and physician clinics etc.), and the merchant banks and third party service providers
  • Assist in training personnel at the facilities on merchant card requirements and operational processes
  • Provision web-based merchant card processing and reporting applications
  • Assist with automation projects for user provisioning, and other projects related to internal controls and/or PCI-DSS requirements
  • Perform quarterly audits of authorized system users
  • Maintain a current Master List of Merchant Accounts with all processors
  • Review monthly merchant statements with an eye towards reducing costs and implementing solutions
  • Support Merchant Card Operations to include the System Manager Merchant Card Operations and the System Director, Merchant Card/Cash Treasury
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to standardize procedures, internal controls, and POS solutions
    Senior Merchant Card Analyst will act as a backup to current Senior Merchant Card Analyst(s) as needed
  • Work with End-User Services (EUS) and PCI Liaisons for the shipping, tracking, receiving and dispositioning of devices including maintaining equipment inventory list
  • Maintain inventory of merchant devices
  • Point of Contact for the PCI Liaisons for all new and existing merchant related requests  
  • Collaborate with internal clients and multiple vendors to install, upgrade or enhance functions and features
  • Develop procedures for internal processes and coordinating implementation of these procedures
  • Keep informed of new products, product enhancements, system changes and compliance issues
  • Assist with annual PCI-DSS compliance reporting
  • Work with Cybersecurity as needed for PCI-DSS, remediation issues and other data security issues
  • Lead or assist with merchant card and other Treasury Operations’ projects as assigned
  • Provide excellent customer support
  • Serve as a back-up to the Senior Cash Analyst for daily cash positioning and reconciliation, and training will be provided in the use of the Treasury Workstation and other functions.
  • Interface with a broad range of parties internally and externally, including CFO’s and employees at CommonSpirit Health and Optum360. This position will also work directly, on a regular basis, with external processors and vendors as appropriate.



  • BA/BS in Finance or equivalent is required.

Knowledge / Experience / Skills:

  • Proficient with PC environment including Microsoft Word, Excel and other applications
  • Experience with Merchant Card processors preferred, but not required
  • Strong problem solving and analytical abilities, verbal and written communication skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accuracy, project and time management skills

Other Qualities:


The Treasury team must constantly balance multiple tasks and shifting priorities, in order to meet changing external and internal requirements.  A successful Senior Merchant Card Analyst will also be self-motivated, require minimal supervision, and have excellent customer service skills, a positive mindset, and a good sense of humor.



  • Minimum of 2 years merchant card knowledge and experience is strongly preferred.
